Enhance your study of the Scriptures with this color-coded system to identify key themes and topics.

PURPLE – Prayer, Praise, Blessing, Worship

Purple represents royalty, reverence, and holiness in the Bible. It was often associated with kings, priests, and the temple.

Use this color for: Verses that focus on praising God, worship songs and prayers, God’s blessings and favor upon people.

Example Verse: Psalm 150 – "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord."

YELLOW – God, Jesus, Holy Spirit

Yellow (or gold) reflects divine presence, light, and glory. It represents the light of Christ and the holiness of God.

Use this color for: Mentions of God, Jesus Christ, or the Holy Spirit, divine actions or speech, the identity and attributes of God.

Example Verse: John 8:12 – “I am the Light of the world.”

BLUE – Wisdom, Teaching, Instruction

Blue stands for truth, revelation, and heavenly insight. In Scripture, it’s also connected with obedience to God’s commandments.

Use this color for: Proverbs or instructional verses, teachings of Jesus and the apostles, any passage offering guidance or moral lessons.

Example Verse: Proverbs 3:5 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart…”

GREEN – Growth, New Life, Faith, Repentance

Green signifies spiritual life, renewal, and hope. It’s the color of healthy, growing plants – just like a thriving faith.

Use this color for: Verses about transformation or spiritual maturity, repentance, baptism, and new beginnings, stories of growth and faith journeys.

Example Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:17 – “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation…”

RED – Evil, Sin, Temptation, Death

Red often represents blood, sacrifice, and also danger. It reminds us of the seriousness of sin, and the price of redemption.

Use this color for: Warnings against sin or evil, stories of disobedience or spiritual danger, crucifixion and the cost of salvation.

Example Verse: Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death…”

PINK – Grace, Salvation, Love, Compassion

Pink reflects gentleness, mercy, and God’s tender love. It’s warm, inviting, and emotional.

Use this color for: God’s unconditional love, acts of kindness, forgiveness, or healing, salvation and the Gospel message.

Example Verse: John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world…”

ORANGE – Laws, History, Genealogies, Numbers

Orange is often used for foundation and structure. It reflects the historical and legal backbone of the Bible.

Use this color for: Old Testament law (Leviticus, Deuteronomy), historical events and genealogies, lists, census records, or timelines.
